The only complaints we recieved were from people who were not familiar with Gilligan's Island. It is true that the Gilligan's Island series is now nearly 50 years old. So we asked Leo Thompson, a frequent contributor to this blog and to Cara Ellison's blog, Enron Online: The Enron Blog, to provide us with an updated comparison.
Well, Leo was up to the task! Inspired by Cara Ellison's earlier post comparing the Enron Broadband defendants to the Marvel super-heroes, The Avengers, Leo decided to also use The Avengers. So, here is Leo's roll call of social media sites as super-heroes:
"Facebook is Captain America -- a symbol of social media that was born in an earlier era.
Google+ is the Incredible Hulk -- started out quietly, but is now turning into a dominating presence.
Twitter is the Mighty Thor -- able to sling tweets like thunderbolts across cyberspace.
Tumblr is the Invicible Iron Man -- quirky, creative, unrestrained, and surprisingly powerful.
Pinterest is Black Widow -- visually compelling and full of an array of photo board weaponry.
Instagram is Hawkeye -- fires special-effect photos like trick arrows across the websphere."
